Russell Mckinzie: I don't believe the series 1 is capable of Ethernet. In any case, the tivo requires subscription service (no matter what series it is).
Clark Lachowski: I think you should buy a series 2. You can find ones on Ebay that already have lifetime service. There are very few Tivos that work without paid Tivo service and IMO the functionality you get with the paid Tivo service makes a world of difference. I have a Tivo that I put lifetime service on. I only paid once and the service is still active almost 4 years later. I also suggest you look for one with a new hard drive installed. An old Tivo might be on the verge of crashing. Mine's already crashed on me once and I had to pay for a $20 program and take it apart to fix it. But it's cool because a few months later I put a huge hard drive in it so I can record my shows with higher quality. Also, a Series 2 can be connected to a home network. If you get one that's brand new, you may need to find someone w! ith a working phone line to set it up for the first time....Show more
Tereasa Sorensen: why would you want to buy a tivo s1? you should get a tivo hd. since it can record free hdtv from a antenna and works with cable. You dont have to pay monthly fees on a series 1. thats the only thing good about it.
