answers 0:I have been biting and chewing on the inside of my mouth for about 10 years now. When i was about 16 (im 22 now), id bit it so much that id make it bleed and id sometimes use sharp pointy objects such as paper clips or thumb tacks. I do it because i like the feeling of that pain in my mouth, it someimtes hurts but i guess it do it for the joy of feeling my skin tear and be yanked on. I dont like that feeling on any other part of my body, and no i was never molested or sexualy abused. You need to be guara! nteed that they will treat him with the best possible education despite! his disabilities and if he needs extra time or a space away, he is not punished by late points or holding him down or putting him in a padded room. Coleman Ocegueda: You know your child the best and his current teacher should be a help for you in determining his needs and how to meet them. If he needs anything to accomodate his disabilities to help him be successful, you need to request it. Do some research on the disabilities and really watch your child and see what would help him. Ask his current teachers and/or therapists what kind of suggestions they have to help improve his abilities.

Lawana Neemann: For LD in reading (dyslexia) I liked to stipulate no penalty for spelling errors on written work except spelling tests. This would be helpful if your son has difficulty with spelling as well. I also used limited, lengthy reading assignments. (Reading for an hour is like taking a five mile hike for dyslexic students. - physic! ally exhausting)I used dictation to a scribe for lengthy written assignments, because it would take forever to try to spell things correctly and get thoughts down on paper. My son dictated to me through middle school.Ask if his pullout tutoring will include a multi-sensory or multi-disciplinary approach to reading - like Orton -Gillingham methods, or Wilson Language, or SRA Reading Mastery. Usually methodology is not written in to an IEP but I know this method works. It does not cure, but the student will learn strategies to approach reading tasks.He needs to learn to write in cursive as soon as possible. It helps with keeping letters grouped together to form words (spacing) and seeing the word as a whole entity not just random letters. I use D'Neillian cursive which has fewer loops and all lower case is learned with connector lines so stringing letters together in words is natural. That does not have to be in there either, but it would not hurt.Separate setting, extended t! ime, and read tests aloud - other than reading tests works well; or, yo! u could try oral retests on missed test questions.Have you tried including a little caffeine with no sugar during the day? We had a student that used to drink a little black coffee a couple times a day to keep him calm - no meds. Some students do well with meds, some do not.Helpful aids: books on tape while student read book with eyes, Franklin speaking spelling ace, 10 minutes on a task with two minutes off to satisfy need for movement, visual aids are helpful, flashcards work for words, chunks, prefixes, suffixes, word processing on the computer, peer in class that keeps him on track with assignments that he can ask questions without penalty (he needs to pick from a couple of students)My son favors the Egyptian method of multiplication which was easy for him, and I liked touch math, and still use Excel math pages. So far her life has been you and nothing but you. A few hours a week sounds like a good transition for both of you! She will learn how to be more independent and make new friends. I home school and I love it!You start in september on the 15th and you have all the way till May just like normal school, but if you take a few days off, or you have a vacation they give you June as well. Every country and society has it's own traditional educational backgrounds to start from, different ideals, and different goals. If you want to know how the education system differs...well, this has been my experience. The education system here has specific core classes like most schools in America do. For instance, every student must take Japanese, math, science, English (junior high and up), etc. Many elective classes that are offered in Americ! an schools, such as music, art, orchestra, theatre, etc. are not very common in Japan. Typically, students instead join school clubs which meet after (and sometimes before) school and on the weekends. Clubs differ at every school, so what might be available at one school might not be at others. Discipline is handled VERY differently in Japan. On many levels, it seems that discipline is simply pretty lacking all around. There is no detention, very little suspension, etc. Students (at my school, at least) are not punished for things like tardiness the way they are in most American schools, and students sleeping in class is fairly common, something that seems pretty rare in America. Most of the time discipline comes down to a student receiving a verbal reprimand or having to apologize for wrongdoing.Another main difference is testing to get into school. Junior high school students must pass exams to get into highschool, and then highschool students must pass exams to ! get into college. These exams are difficult, and schools are ! typically arranged according to academic level or field. For instance, you have some schools that aim to send students to college, others that teach students agriculture, and others that focus on business. Highschool education is not mandatory in Japan, so if you fail the entrance exams or simply don't want to go, you can choose to quit and work instead.As for students being high achievers, this is more of a stereotype than anything else. It all depends on the school you're at. Very high level schools have highly motivated students who work hard and study constantly. Those students are high achievers because they're intelligent, work hard, and set goals. They probably have families who place high importance on education. On the other hand, other schools have students who are lower level or not as motivated. Even in those schools you'll have some highly motivated, high achieving students, but for the most part they don't seem that different from American students. ! Having said that, it does seem, however, that even the lower students have a higher understanding of math than typical American students. My guess is that it comes from encouragement and stress on importance of the subject from a younger age.
