Nona Lentini: Part of the new stimulus package, so I am told, the government will pay between $3500, and $4500 towards a new car if it meets the gas savings over your old car. It will involve about 350,000 cars. At the lowest end of $3500, that is over $1,225,000,000. We are only talking about cars here. This does not even refer to the health care plan, energy bill, or any other part of this, or other stimulus plans. I think the economists are missing the main point here.
Heidy Fujikake: As long as most Americans believe that foreign cars are better than American made cars, the car industry in America will continue to fall. (Not speaking of all their greed in the car companies. That's a whole other story.) I was just thinking earlier about why so many foreigners here (especially the Asians), stick to buying Toyotas and Hondas and Nissans. That's all that most of them drive where I live. Which makes me think that they are really not trying to help the American auto c! ompanies, or the economy, and must think the cars made in their country are better. To tell you the truth, American car companies have come a long way, and have gotten much better over the years. I have members in my extended family who won't buy anything but American cars. Especially Ford....Show more
Stevie Kizziar: right now Toyota has 10 times the number of recalls that GM vehicles do, the newer cars are very high quality, the liberal elitist media does not feel the need to report about Toyota's problems, but American automotive company problems are page 1 news daily.test drive a few for yourself, there is no better car built right now as a Chevrolet Impala, full size rides great 30 miles per gallon, but oh yeah the liberals at Starbucks sipping latte prefer foreign cars as a status symbol...Show more
Johnnie Pummill: I'm sure if you were one of the workers that lost their jobs you would think it does help.
Vickie Sterbenz: I don't know, I own 7 GM veh! icles the oldest of which, besides the 65' GTO I bought 6 days! ago, is a 2004, GM makes very good cars/trucks that cover an area of the market that no one else can, Who else offer an Escalade with a 8.1 liter V-8 that I can put 24's on, or a Camero with a 6.2 w/traction control and 100K warranty with supercharger or a crew cab dually that can seat 5, pull my 8,500lb boat with 4 TV's and 3, DDA 15's bumping up the Grape Vine in 111 degree heat at 82mph?everyone can thank obama's big business backers, AKA the unions, for American car makers manufacturing parts/cars out of country...Show more
Hyman Coren: Obama's got it handled. He is encouraging people to but American and also that American makers make more efficient cars. That's going to be part of the new jobs he's creating for his friends. There are hidden agendas behind all these new technologies and the development of them.
Rosie Travino: I don't think many economists expect you to buy American cars. The Obama Administration and the Auto Workers Union expect you to.Th! is problem started some years ago when US auto makers could finance the sales of their vehicles and didn't charge interest. It got so many people (including those without income to pay for the car) to buy at once that we have too many good used cars and very little market for new ones. Actually the problems started long ago when the cars were built to break down, had no style and generally sucked air and burned too much gas. Make mine a Honda, or better yet an ACURA!...Show more
Elsie Resner: Economists insist upon a completely dependent society based upon high tech/innovation which we cannot possibly sustain given our underfunded institutions and general lack of mathematical prowess. A society which produces nothing but ideas for commerce and a continuing demand. Its' based upon our general business repugnance of unionization as a fundamental principle of a socialist society therefor antithetical to a capitalist and opportunistic one. My guess- its' already failing ! to provide for the general demand, affordability within our own borders! . Meanwhile half billion dollar CEO's of failing corporations are no bargain either. Most of us realize this intuitively if not intellectually already. There in lies the central conflict....Show more
Libby Berkovitch: me personally, i believe that mitibishi, toyota, nissan, and honda and huiday are MUCH higher quality than GM. Dodge has good trucks other than that, no. and ford is OK. My 3 GM vechicles that have been in my family have all lasted a grand total of 150,000 miles. which is terrible, averaging 50,000 miles, all the transmissions went out, and the interior cracks, breaks and A/C goes out, just a laundry list of problems. My mitibishi car ALONE has 150,000 miles on it. and is running strong until this day. PROBLEM FREE.It doesnt take a very smart person to see the patern here, GM went bankrupt for a reason.no american car company even comes close to the ones i listed above...Show more
