backwards compatibility important in a business environment?

Lyndon Mattas: how does ms-dos play a role in it ?

Peter Lapoint: It is one of the most important things in any business environments, or even personal for that matter.Imagine that one day you bought a game, you have upgraded your Windows to a newer version, and that game now does not work. Windows by nature allows you to install older games and softwares to use them, Windows is backwards compatible. Imagine not being able to view the photos you took some years ago, not being able to view the videos of a certain TV series you enjoy, or not being able to read documents that you had. In a business environment, there are countless project that can last for years. At work, i have documents that date back to 2006-2007, some of them back to 2002, this is 10 years of compatibility, and this is impressive. In a one more personal note, i have managed to run on Windows 7 a software that I owned back in the days of Windows 3.1, that's nearly 20 years of backwards compatibility! , an impressive thing to say the least....Show more
