Gordon Showes: I asked someone who is a lawyer because they will know who the top lawyers are. I found my lawyers this way and it was worth it to find a good lawyer. Don't look in the yellow pages! I've heard horror stories of lawyers who didn't do their jobs but charged their clients anyway, or worse, a friend ended up $40,000 in debt and she didn't get anything in return.
